Flycut (Clipboard manager) App Reviews

simple to use, clutter free, all around great app

I screwed myself over too many times trying to cut and paste code into another file only to get distracted in the middle and copy over it, sometimes loosing many hours worth of work. I had finally had enough and searched for a clipboard extender. This is exactly what I need. It is really strait forward to use and out of the way, not adding any clutter to my work environment. Plus its free and open source! I would recommend it to everyone.

Love It

I dont normally leave reviews on apps but this one is a must. I use this app daily, it really helps when I cant remember a website I wanted to visit. Oh and too the guy who is talking about the menu bar icon. You should try downloading BarTender, it will fix the cluttered menu bar really quick. Hope that helps. Excellent app though

Just great

I was searching for this kinda tool. Its great, it works better then I was expecting!

option to remove menubar icon

I dont like this app because I cannot remove the menubar icon from the top. It is just an eyesore. The pasting thing works great though just like jumpcut. In the General in Preferences, the Display in Menu has a minimum of 5, and the Remember has a minimum of 10. I would also like these minimums to be removed. Let the USER decide what they want it to be. After all, thats what preferences are for. I would definitely give this a 5 star if not for those issues.

Very useful, one fundamental usability issue

Context: Im a developer, the only place I really use this is in editing source code. But there, multi-clip is a must-have feature that apple doesnt support Love this for the most part, but giving up on it because workflow is a big problem. The primary scenario for using (for me) is when Im moving around in the source code adjusting multiple blocks of code with several related chunks that need to be put somewhere. So Ive got one hand over on the mouse, navigating around. I hit the modifier keys, and… cant navigate through clips with the mouse. Scroll wheel does nothing, theres no next/prev button to hit, etc… So I have to pick up my right hand and move it over to the left half of my keyboard to get to the arrow keys to navigate clippings. That requires me to look down a the keyboard, then back up at the screen to find what I want, then back down at the keyboard to get my hand back over on the left side of the keyboard for the next ctrl-c/ctrl-v operation. Just annoying. Make the clips scroll with the mouse scroll wheel, or give me a button, and I never have to move my hand or take my eyes off the screen. As implemented, the app does provide multiple clippings but otherwise feels like an impediment that stops my work while I deal with it rather than a smoothly integrated helper. Going to buy something to replace this, which is a shame because the developer did a ton of work and its a really great app for developers except for that horrible navigation flow issue.

I cannot think of any day without it

Since I installed this app it took me a while to get used to it, but now that Im used to it, it just makes so much sense. Having a clipboard without history is like having a computer without backups, or not using git (if you know what a version control system is). I cannot think of any day without it.

best simple clipboard manager

Ive used clipmenu but fly cut takes one less keys stroke to get to the clipboard snippets - so its got my vote!

Solid But tweaks would make it awesome

Turn On / Off Menu Bar Icon Include Black and White Menu Bar Icon Dropbox Sync in Real Time. Regardless this is a staple that I have installed on all my machines.

How to use Flycut bezel

Use the arrow up/down keys to navigate the bezel. Needs a 25 word instruction manual as I had to hunt the net for this info. Still gets 5 stars! Awesome! Light, sleek, functional, plus intuitive hot key operation. This gets launched on startup for both my machines. Enable drop box sync to seamlessly cut and paste from notebok to desktop. Another nominee for open source sainthood.

Answer to my Prayers!!!!

For years, Illustrator has lacked the ability to paste unformatted text while InDesign has it built in. I have had to paste into a plain text editor, copy that text, then paste it into my Illustrator document. Frankly, this was a royal pain and irritated me because the functionality was just dangling in front of my face with InDesign. This product is a fantastic solution to my problem. I opted to set up an alternate hot key for pasting plain text (option-v) which is perfect and avoids conflicts with other standard pasting hot keys in Adobe apps as well as the OS. A special thanks to the developers on this one. You guys have created a really nice product.

Can’t live without it!

OS X needs to come with this functionality… Such a productivity helper!

Fully usable with keyboard only

Love this tiny up because it’s light and it’s fully usable with the keyboard. You trigger it with your favorite hotkeys but then before releasing the keys you can navigate the history using your arrow keys.

Great app, very functional

Great app, very functional. Does exactly what you need it to: save copies, which you can later retrieve to the clipboard. My only complaint is with the hotkey function. When you press it, it pasts the most recent copy; which is what the paste key does anyway. It briefly shows a transparent popup of that info. It would be more functional if this hotkey simply showed you the most recent copy/clipboard data, and allowed you to select what you wanted, then either copy or paste (depending on your setting), etc. Overall, great app considering the price!!!

Bugs in this version, but one of the best utilities I’ve used

The original Jumpcut has worked on every system I’ve tried it on and is one of the most useful apps I’ve ever installed, but hasn’t been updated in a long time and I’ve had to cross my fingers that it would work after every OS upgrade... I’m glad Flycut has taken up the reins to keep this utility alive and well, but Flycut has a bug that does not allow it to remember your settings after a restart - unless you tell it to save after each clip… It won’t save your preferences whenever they’re changed like most other apps and it took me a while to figure out how to get it to save its preferences. There’re a couple of reports of this problem on the developers GitHub, but it’s still a problem. Still, bugs aside it’s one of my most used/first installed utilities and it’s approach to clipboard management fits my style better than all other clipboard buffers/managers that I’ve tried.

Helpful for people working with lots of text

Overall it’s pretty solid for the basic tasks after it is set up. The preferences menu leaves a lot to be desired, however. Specifically, it would be nice to have a live preview of the window as you are trying to edit the view. Design wise, the UI is a little ugly as well. Feature Requests: * Live Preview during view customization * Add a theming option - It’s currently a little utilitarian, I’d love to make it look/feel like my other setups. * Additional icon options - The scissors are low-res and look poor and the rest of my icons are black/white to fit the menubar style better.

Apple should buy up you guys

Apple should buy up you guys for 1m+ and package this with their opperating system. I sotpped in the middle of edditing a piece I’m writing just to say how much I appreciate Flycut.

Indispensible, Issue with multiple monitors

Indispensible. I must use this a dozens of times a day - can’t imagine doing without. I found that flycut doesn’t work fully if you are pasting into a window on a second monitor (not sure if it’s still an issue if the second monitor is in mirror mode) - it won’t properly let you select another clipping to paste and only lets you paste the most recent one. Still, I just drag the window to the main monitor and paste there and it works fine. Wish: I wish there was a snippet/short cut function that could easily paste frequently used things like my email address without having to search for it.

Clear history doesn’t work

Really annoying that clear history doesn’t work. It will work 1x, when you initally install the app, and after that, clearing history simply greys out the entire menu and you have to open activity monitor and quit the app. Considering I clear history often, this gets obscenely annoying quite quickly.

The Definitive Solution to the Modern Pasteboard

The only think I can say about this app is as a programmer and and a power user, this app has changed my life. That sounds like an overstatement; maybe it is. It also could be a knee jerk reaction to an obvious modern addition to the pervasive 30 year old concept of the Macintosh pasteboard. Whichever it is, the utility of this app is incredible. I cant emphasis how much Flycut has streamlined my workflow, and as a long time Mac user, Flycuts user experience has always felt right at home. Every time I show this app to a coworker, fellow developer, OS X power user, or anyone who know just wants to save time, I see a look of joy. Anyone who has invoked Command + C will appreciate this app!

Go get the non-app store version

The app store began implementing restrictions on apps (so dumb) that prohibits apps from pasting to another app… Thus this app has not been updated in forever. If you’re technical you can go build the app yourself and get all sorts of great new features. Otherwise, you can keep using this current version from 2011.
